Hi all,
Here is the latest news on my restoration. Back in march i was attending to the back axle well that has now all been finished and is now attached to what is now looking more like a car again. All the brakes have been done and the handbrake works The foot brake side isnt as yet but thats not far off now.
The engine is now running but not without a few issues. I purchased a 3 branch stainless exhaust manifold from the mgoc but could not believe how much work i had to do to it to make it fit it was a right nightmare I even had to modify the inlet manifold in order for it to fit, but it does fit very well now
I had a half broken stud in the cylinder head that needed replacing but it snapped off in the head trying to remove it so i drilled it out and started to re tap. All was goilg well untill the tap snapped off flush in the head that was then game over. These things can happen.
However, i had an old gold seal engine which i had lying around so i decided to recondition the cylinder head from that engine and use on mine. So my engine now has a new head gasket fitted along with a fully reconditioned cylinder head which is as good as new.
With the engine now running i could check to see if the clutch worked and the gears engaged. Im glad to say that all was well. In order to use my capillary oil & water gague i have had to use an adaptor for the cylinder head as the threads on the later heads are different. My seats are now back from being re upholstered in black with red piping they even did the head rests for me
My next plan of action will be to order my magnolia gagues, speedo & rev counter get my new wings painted and put on and get my foot brake working plus have my exhaust custom made and plum in my fuel lines. There is still a lot of work to do but we are getting there slowly and are heading in the right direction. i will keep you posted on future developments. Thank you
